A blind painter is dismissed by the art world as being
inherently incapable of participating, when he strives to convey the sense of
sightlessness to the sighted. The people that do support him primarily do so
for fraudulent reasons; they just want to seem accepting without actually
internalizing his goals. Worse, insecurities caused by his phony supporters
causes him to doubt himself, and since he can’t see, he struggles to confirm
his self-worth.

Alone Together
Singleton is a man with a bizarre crisis. He’s deeply
sexually attracted to being alone. Which is not to say that he’s impotent, but
rather, he’s more aroused by solitude than he is by personal contact. Of
course, women he attempts to become involved with judge his bizarre method of
wanting extreme isolation immediately prior to, or intermittently throughout
sex. He invents an imaginary friend to satisfy both of his needs
simultaneously, but things get awkward when he realizes that she isn’t
imaginary. She’s been pretending.

The Flower of One
Florence is an anti-social florist who seeks to grow
self-sustaining flowers and thus eliminate the need for her coworkers. The
biological difficulties are not easily surmounted. Initially customers don’t
want self-sustaining flowers, because caring for the flowers is one of the
therapeutic benefits of having them in the first place. Then no one will buy
them, largely because they aren’t attractive. Once Florence succeeds, people
become impressed by her and they are nicer to her so she wants them around
more. But the flowers have grown to view her as a mother figure and will
jealously defend her against the threat they perceive in the form of other
people’s involvement with her.
