Temporal Cliff

            In a near future where time travel is commonly used but tightly policed.  Chrono-viewing has replaced predictive analysis as a major component of stock market and business ventures.  Deaths from accidents and natural disasters have decreased dramatically as has the crime rate.  Security is through the roof and the world is a marvelous, safe place.

            Then strange things start happening.  Temporal rifts begin tearing across the globe with a wide variety of effects.  People’s ages change dramatically as they pass through certain zones.  Elements of the past appear out of nowhere and wreak havoc in cities.  Pieces of a distant, quasi-apocalyptic future break through into the present.

            Scientists deduce that the cause of these distortions is the massive amount of stress that excessive chrono-manipulation has placed on the space-time continuum.  The solution is to greatly reduce temporal modification and chrono-viewing, but the world is far too dependent on these technologies for this to be an easy task.  However, if this paradigm shift isn’t quickly implemented, the world could be plunged over the edge of the temporal cliff into an abyss of nonsensical chaos.
