Shoppers in
a Wal-Mart type superstore take shelter as something like an earthquake rocks
the store in the middle of what was otherwise a normal day (or perhaps Black
Friday). Only, when the tremors cease,
the shoppers quickly realize that all of the doors are locked and that only
darkness is visible outside of the store.
A brief panic subsides as a store manager and one of the shoppers
restore order. Some scouting confirms
that the air-conditioning is still functional but the vents cannot be
removed. There is no cell service and no
internet. They are cut off.
The
shoppers debate the nature of what is happening. End of the World? Alien Abduction? Social Experiment? Reality TV Show? When weird things start to happen these
theories seem as though they may actually have some merit. The clocks stop. Food stockpiles dwindle. Magnetic forces pull things about. Hallucinogenic gas drives some of the
shoppers insane.
As the
nature of these tests or obstacles becomes increasingly unusual, the shoppers
find themselves more and more at odds with each other, arguing and eventually
fighting about what they should do. What
if the doors will only open when one man is left standing? A sci-fi thriller hybrid of Cube and The Mist.
